Escape room are deemed as one of the perfect activities when it comes to team-building exercises. They are also categorized as the best activity to develop leadership, time management, problem-solving skills, creative thinking, improved communication, and sharpened concentration, among other skills.
Parenting, on the other hand, is bliss. Well, for the most part. However, handling kids is tough. Much like escape rooms, parenting is tricky and quite challenging. There are moments when you would feel stuck and others when you would be confused. Parenting and escape rooms can almost be used synonymously, except that escape rooms are a game, and you will get out of them eventually, but the same can’t be said for parenting.
This blog post will discuss why parenting is like an escape room that you can never escape.
It is a team effort
One of the first skills one must acquire to play an escape room is teamwork. This is one of the significant reasons corporations, big or small, encourage playing escape rooms to help build partnerships with their employees for better efficiency and fewer conflicts.
The same can be said for parenting. The mother and father need to work together as a unit to handle their child, whatever may be their child’s growth stage. Successful parenting cannot be done alone. Conflicts are bound to arise when living together, and the key is to work through the problem together and come up with a solution. Plus, extra support can’t harm anyone, can it?
It would help if you had clear communication
Much like a team effort, communication is another crucial skill in solving an escape room. There might be some correct solutions, some not, but you must convey whatever is on your mind to your team. You never know; what might sound wrong in your head is the correct answer. Merely spectating can’t make you win an escape room.
When it comes to parenting, you need clear-cut communication with your spouse. Communication is the prerequisite for a successful relationship. Hence, whenever there is a grievance that needs to be addressed or if you need your spouse to participate more in the process of parenting, communicate your needs. Not all of us are psychics; even if we are, voicing our concerns can help solve much more significant issues.
Creative thinking skills need to play out
A significant prerequisite to solving an escape room is possessing creative thinking skills. Yet, some puzzles are designed so that you need to think outside the box to come up with a solution.
Kids, on the other hand, are an entire puzzle in themselves. You need to be creative to address their various needs. The trickiest part of it all is how fickle-minded kids are. As parents, you must develop innovative ideas to keep their attention in one place, whether for eating or sleeping.
You need to be a problem solver
Escape rooms are all about possessing problem-solving skills. You need the relevant skills to come up with a solution to the puzzles and riddles. And for that to happen, you need to have a problem-solving attitude.
Similarly, for parenting, problems are bound to arise. The key is to address them as they are. And one thing that can help you with that is using the skills mentioned earlier. When you put all of these together to use, you develop problem-solving skills.
Yet, parenting is an escape room that you can never escape
As much as all the skills required for escape rooms can help with parenting, parenting is one thing you can never escape. You will always be your kids’ caregivers, no matter how big they are. You’ll always get problems thrown your way and situations that will puzzle you. However, parenting is bliss; this is one escape room you wouldn’t want to escape from.
