How to Draw a Cartoon Frog – let’s Get Initiated!
Step 1
We’ll focus on the top of the head and face for this first step of your cartoon frog drawing. This will be simple; you can start by drawing two circular shapes. Each of these will have smaller circles inside, and the inside will be filled with black, as this will be the pupil. You will then draw a curved line above each eye, connected by a smaller curved line between them.
Step 2
In this second step of our guide on how to draw a cartoon frog, we’ll add a little more to the outline of the face. Specifically, you will draw a curved line on each side of the head.
These will extend down from where the previous headlines near the eyes ended in the previous step and are quite curved like the frog. Cheeks. Finish off by adding a smaller curved line under the eyes for other expressions, and then we can continue.
Step 3
Now we can add more facial details and the legs of this frog. Let’s focus on the face. You can start the facial features by drawing two small nostrils between the eyes. We will draw a smiling mouth.
This will be drawn with curved lines connecting with a pointed tip in the middle. This will also have a curved line underneath for a lower lip. We will draw the legs. These will be quite short and thick and have distinctive legs underneath. Each foot will have three fairly short, rounded toes and some webbing.
Step 4
A common visual image when it comes to frogs has them sitting on a lily pad. This is what we will add to this part of your cartoon frog drawing. This lily pad should be pretty easy to add too! First, we will finish the outline of the frog.
Specifically, we’ll draw rounded hips on the frog’s sides. Once these hips are drawn, we can add that lily pad. It will be drawn using some simple curved lines that connect below the frog. When you’ve drawn the lily pad as it appears in our example, you’re ready for some final details in the next step of the guide!
Step 5
It’s time to finish the composition before coloring this little guy in the final step of this guide on how to draw a cartoon frog. We’ll keep things very simple in this step, as we’ll essentially add an outline for the water on which the lily pad sits.
We draw this outline using a simple curved line, but you can also omit it if you want the entire background to be the water of the lake or pond. Once you’ve added this final detail, you can add some additional details and ideas to the image. It might be fun to draw a background to show what kind of environment this frog is in. What kind of details would you add to this image?
Step 6
At the beginning of this guide, we mentioned that frogs could come in many different colors and patterns, and now you can pick a few colors for this amazing frog! In our example image, we’ve chosen some classic greens for the frog and modified the ones we use for a certain variety. Next, we used a darker green for the lily pad and finished with blue for the water.
These are the colors we chose, but there are many more you can choose from! If you look up some species of frogs, you will see that they can come in just about every color you can imagine. We hope you enjoy adding wonderful colors to this cute little frog!
